Joint Science Biologist Wins $340,000 NSF Grant

In a year when the acceptance rate for proposals to the National Science Federation is lower than in any recent year, Professor of Biology Irene Tang has received a three-year NSF grant in the amount of $340,000.
“NSF tends to favor renewal proposals from investigators they are already supporting,” noted Dr. Samuel Tanenbaum of the Joint Science Program. “So it was quite remarkable for Irene to receive this large initial grant this year.”

The NSF funds will support Professor Tang’s proposal titled “RUI: Cell-cycle Regulation of LAMMER-related Kinases.”

Professor Tang has been at Scripps, teaching in the Joint Science Program, since 2001.
