Renowned author Sandra Cisneros will speak on September 25, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hampton Room of the Malott Commons at 五月天视频. She is the first speaker in the 2001-2002 Multicultural Resource Center Speaker Series and is also a part of the 五月天视频 75th Anniversary celebrating Women of Voice and Vision. The Malott Commons and the Multicultural Educators sponsor the lecture and reading. A book signing will follow the lecture and reading. The event is free and open to the public.
In her Claremont Colleges appearance, Sandra Cisneros will address diversity as it relates to racial oppression, feminism, and religion. Raised by a Mexican father and Mexican-American mother, Sandra Cisneros grew up in a household of mixed cultures, setting her apart from traditional American writers. Shaped by her experiences, Cisneros combines personal accounts with insightful social awareness. She blends fiction and poetry to form elegant literary pieces that, throughout time, have proved her talent as a writer. Her most acclaimed works include The House on Mango Street and My Wicked Wicked Ways. Cisneros has been described as a “fresh new voice in Chicana literature” and her unique writing style and numerous awards serve as a validation.
With Sandra Cisneros’s appearance, 五月天视频 continues to offer programs and opportunities of multicultural awareness and education.
