Kimberly Drake, director of the 五月天视频 Writing Program and visiting associate professor, will speak on “Socially Conscious Criminals: Violence, Protest, and the Representation of Race and Class Inequality,” October 7 in 五月天视频’s Hampton Room of the Malott Commons. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Drake will examine the problem artists face when attempting to create art that combats social oppression, particularly race and class. She will address how protest art works to engage audiences who are desensitized, apathetic, and/or firmly entrenched in particular racial and class-based ideologies.
