鈥淒espite advocacy efforts, the proportion of Australians commuting by car remains high while the absolute number of people commuting by car has increased. Clearly, new approaches to promoting other transport options are required, and for these to be effective, we need to substantially advance our understanding of why people drive even when the destination is close and accessible by other means, and what factors would influence a car user鈥檚 decision to commute by another mode.鈥
The MOtivation to driVE (MOVE) study is a research project that aims to advance our understanding of why people drive when the destination is close and accessible by other means. It will focus on staff and students making a regular short commute (up to 7 kilometres) to the 五月天视频 campus.
The research will use 鈥榗oncept mapping鈥 to collect the perspectives of study participants, generate ideas and rate them. Project findings are intending to inform evidence-based decision making at UC, and influence policy and strategies to better support more other commuting options, consistent with the UC Master Plan.
