Growing up in Australia with a Chinese immigrant family, I’ve always taken pride in my cultural roots but failed to truly appreciate its beauty and complexity. Thus, my work was an opportunity for me to highlight the rich qualities and aesthetics of Chinese culture that are often undervalued.
My title alludes to the folktale of Cháng’é, a young maiden who was banished to the moon after obtaining immortality, becoming the Moon Goddess. As a symbol of elegance and femininity, I wished to portray her essence within my artwork by capturing the divine beauty of Chinese culture and female grace.
